Menorca is a Mediterranean island that belonged to the British crown, over two hundred years ago, during most of the eighteenth century.
Thousands of sailors and British soldiers garrisoned the island and were clients of the taverns, where there were spirits then fashionable in their country: GIN. Soon some Mahón craftsmen found a solution to the problem: import juniper berries and produce gin on the island itself from the Mediterranean wine alcohol. Thus the GIN, Nordic drink acclimatized successfully in Menorca. The Gin throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries was established as a popular drink and inseparable from any special event, private or public, did. Well into the twentieth century, of the purest family roots and craft a brand arose: Xoriguer, which began to bottle and carefully commercialize the product which hitherto had moved into an area little more than local. XORIGUER, is the name of the old mill existing wind from 1784, in which many generations of the PONS family had converted bushels of wheat into flour. MIQUEL PONS JUSTO, heir to craft such a long tradition, wanted to dump the virtues of this (tradition, quality, dedication) in his liquor company and therefore chose as an emblem not only the name but also the image of the centennial family business: the slender mill with wind vanes. GIN XORIGUER went from being a local curidosidad to a product of increasingly comprehensive, breaking through in the market for its quality and attractive packaging. By its origins, traditions and Mediterranean characteristics XORIGUER GIN has earned recognition throughout the EEC the designation of traditional specialty guaranteed processing or specific name ETG Mahon, Menorca. Xoriguer to its origins remains today a family business with forward-looking, true craftsmanship and continued with the desire to please with its elaborate Gin Xoriguer to all its customers and friends
