Gabriel Viñas consolidates a project initiated in s. XIX by Juan Rofes, heir of Darmós Gabriel House, the ancestor initiate family wine business in treasury planting vines and making wine in the property.
Gabriel House Gabriel today Vineyards, a winery, following the family tradition, produces wines in the name of Montsant, applying an almost biodynamic agriculture on Carignan vines (30 to 90 years), Grenache (15 to 80 years) and Syrah (15 years), planted in different soils: calcareous, clayey, sandy soils ..., about 150-200 m. altitude. To explain this long history we must go back to the nineteenth century: see the grandfather Juan Rofes, heir to the Gabriel House Darmós start the wine activity, planting one to one their own vines and making wine on the ground floor of his house. Grandpa John was a strong, hardworking man and a committed partner to the land that would host their strains and its fruit generations. By then cultivated land completely organically, attentive to the cycles and with the conviction that you just had to hear what the terroir and strains dictated for good production. This belief was inherited by his descendants, the pace of the years and the growth of the winery, which soon moved to the basement of the house to a larger location in the center of Darmós. At no time in the 150 year history of the winery have been used chemicals to treat or enhance the production of our vineyards. Resulting in a vigorous, healthy and wise land, today we are dealing with the same respect as the first days of life of the Gabriel House. Effort and difficulties have led to a very precious reward: a beginning of this century, Josep Mª Anguera, the fourth generation, has consolidated Antilia Vineyards Winery in current Gabriel. With new, spacious facilities and prepared but always closing the eye early in the manor house. A dream where perseverance, work in the newspaper field and union with the dialogue of the land has allowed today we present a honest, authentic and genuinely expressive wines.
