Manufacturer of Liefmans Belgian beer frutesse of lambic style.
Jacobus Liefmans brewery founded in 1679 in the center of Oudenaarde, on the west side of the river Scaldis, under French government and therefore the area where hops are not used. Thus beer was elaborated Oud Bruin ("brown lager") that not only fermented in open vats (and therefore is mixed fermentation) but before commercializing from various vats mixed to obtain a homogeneous taste . Jacobus sold his brewery in 1905 to Pierre Van Geluwe, but on one condition: while elaborating brewery beers always had to do under the original name: Liefmans. To expand facilities in 1923 was necessary to move across the river Scaldis, where it remains today. At the owner's death in 1976, Madame Rosa Blancquaert-Merckx, who had been the secretary, became the director of the brewery. He was a key figure of the brewery, even for a few changes in ownership and even taking care of the production until the early 90s, when he retired. Rosa Blancquaert is in this sense a historical reference at the Belgian beer world. The brewery changed hands in 1980 and in 1990 bought the Riva Dentergem Brewery, which went bankrupt in 2007. In 2008 it was bought for Duvel - Moortgat who wanted to maintain their tradition and culture: the development of their beers are now produced in Duvel, from where they take the must Liefmans to ferment in their where mature open vats where they mix the different tanks different vintages, as they always have the same brewers - tasters. The basis of all their beers remains the Oud Bruin which is then mixed (Liefmans Oud Bruin), ripe with cherries (Liefmans Cuvée-Brut) refermented bottle (Goudenband Liefmans) or mixed with different fruit before bottling (Liefmans Fruitesse ).
